Vision+Media in partnership with FutureEverything present keynote speakers, live entertainment and unconference sessions.
In May 2010, the FutureEverything festival delivered The City Debate. A battle cry for evangelists, cynics, digital artisans, policy makers, property magnates, media vultures, urban planners and the wider public, one of the dominant issues on the day was a collective call to look beyond the bricks-and-mortar bubbles of city rivalries and embrace a wider sense of regional identity.
Featuring keynote speakers, a mini-gig of epic disproportion and a one-hour, highly focused unconference (where those in attendance can pitch and host short discussion groups on related topics), FutureEverything in partnership with Vision+Media present a half day booster injection to ensure we do not lose sight of the opportunities to be explored by those who desire collaboration and innovation.
The event will feature the following keynote speakers and entertainment:
Professor Steve Furber, ICL Professor of Computer Engineering in the School of Computer Science at the University of Manchester. In April 2010 Steve Furber was announced as one of the three 2010 Millennium Technology Prize Laureates, an award which seeks to highlight innovations that assist and enrich our lives both now and in the future.
Gerry Hassan, writer, commentator and thinker about Scotland, the UK, politics and futures thinking. Hailed by the Sunday Herald as ‘Scotland’s main public intellectual’, Gerry has written and edited a dozen books in the last decade on Scotland and the wider world: from the setting up of the Parliament, to its record, policy, in-depth studies of the Labour Party and SNP, and looking at how we imagine the future.
Kid Carpet - Ed Patrick, a solo artist whose reputation as a live performer utilising pound shop toys and lo-fi goodness has led to international tours and live support slots for the likes of Willy Mason, Badly Drawn Boy, Electric Six, The Go! Team, Arcade Fire, Art Brut, Presidents of the United States of America, and Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip. Kid Carpet will be performing tracks from his latest project, ‘The Advert Break’.
UNCONFERENCE
Choose to attend three sessions from a maximum of twelve breakout conversations. The difference is that you, the audience, will be able to propose and host these sessions if you wish: the range of topics limited only by the interests of those in the room. You can prepare a pitch prior to attending or simply propose something on the day. Consider the following approaches:
A demonstration of technology
A project shared
A question or proposition, thrown open to those gathered for response
A more formal presentation no longer than 10 minutes allowing time for discussion
If you'd like to make a suggestion, please contact Bren O’Callaghan at bren@futureeverything.org
Digital & Creative Futures will also feature installations from Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir: Lux Aurumque , SosoLimited: Prime Numerics and Aaron Koblin: Data Visualisations as well as unconference sessions and networking.
