SoundBytes - Music Industry Sessions

Vision+Media and Lancashire County Council launched their series of music industry events, SoundBytes, earlier in the year to great success. The next session is due to take place on Thursday, 22nd July 2010, at Avenham Park Pavilion, Preston.

Event Title:    soundbytes: music industry sessions

Date:               Thursday 22nd July 2010

Venue:            Avenham Park Pavilion & the Continental, Preston

Event Synopsis
Following on from our previous music industry activity in Nelson and Blackburn, Lancashire County Council’s Creative Lancashire Team, present a series of workshops, surgeries and opportunities for networking with current leading industry practitioners, culminating in a key note discussion and Q&A session. The event is aimed at those already working or aspiring to work, in the music industry and will address some of the current issues for industry professionals including:

  • The New Management model – Artist/Label/Manager
  • Developing and exploit multiple revenue streams
  • Social Media in the music industry
  • Graphic Design & Illustration in music
  • Music Synchronization & Licensing, Composition & Publishing
  • Music’s role in creating vibrant cities and as a catalyst for change

Music, Regeneration & Place Making: Preston Context
At this time Preston is a City with grand economic and cultural aspirations but since gaining City status, Preston has failed to fulfil its potential and ‘punch its weight’ when compared to cities in other parts of the region. Some influential decision makers are exploring the capacity for regeneration and place making through developing public realm arts projects, and the cultural/creative offer, including music, as a catalyst for change.

Throughout the day there will be a limited number of surgeries available with our music industry mentor and other current leading industry practitioners – follow this link to download the application form: www.creativelancashire.org/

The panel for the afternoon workshops will include Jode Steele & David Wainwright (Verbal Vigilante), Rachel Wood (Woodwork Music Limited), and will be facilitated by Pete Jenkinson (Music is Ours/Record Label Services), and Bruce Thomas (Modern English).

The Workshops will be followed by the Music - Industry Session. Tables with advisors drawn from across the industry will be positioned around the room. Delegates will be able to move from table to table to access the support they need from our music mentors, Vision+Media, Business Link, UKTI, The Musicians Union, PRS (TBC) and others.

The final panel discussion and Q&A will feature Dave Pichilingi (Liverpool Sound City), Andy Votel (Finders Keepers, Twisted Nerve, Graphic Designer & Lecturer), Andrew Carthy (Mr Scruff, Ninja Tune Records TBC), Jayne Compton (Switchflicker Records), Karen Boardman (Crisis Management & Sound Investment), and Liam Walsh (Ask me PR), and. The debate will be chaired by Dave Haslam (writer, journalist, lecturer and legendary Hacienda DJ).

The day will finish off with a live music event at the Continental (South Meadow Lane, Preston), in collaboration with They Eat Culture and BBC Radio Lancashire Introducing (www.newcontinental.net)
