Short films are critical in identifying interesting talent, developing writers, directors and producers. They give filmmakers real life experience, allowing them to demonstrate to producers and funders that they understand the filmmaking process, and have the potential to make a feature film.
We run a series of short film schemes aimed at developing the skills and visual style of filmmakers.
1) Completion Funding for Short Films
This strand is open for submissions on a rolling basis and you must meet a member of Vision+Media staff before submitting an application.
This funding is to support the completion of high quality short films aimed at the international festival circuit and short film sales market. This strand is open to submissions from individual film makers and production companies based within the Vision+Media region.
Submissions must be at rough cut or beyond and not more than 15 minutes long. Only in exceptional circumstances will this be extended.
The film should not have been publically screened and should be fully cleared when complete for all media. Films previously funded via Vision+Media schemes such as Digital Shorts are not eligible for this scheme.
This strand does not include support for transfer or print costs.
You will be expected to tell us what your festival strategy for the completed film will be and how you will market and distribute the film. The completion budget can include these costs up to a maximum of 10%.
Priority will be given to applicants who have not previously received Completion Fund support.
Films need to be complete within 3 months of award being made.
Awards are up to £5,000 but in most instances amounts awarded will be lower.
Match funding must be provided at a minimum of 30% of the total project costs. This amount can be provided as cash or in kind support.
2) Green Shoots
Green Shoots is an annual short film scheme that we have launched over summer for the past two years, funding up to six short films with budgets of £2,500.
Whilst low budget, the quality of films is excellent; two of Vision+Media's Green Shoots have beeen selected for competition at this years Bristol Encounters.
This scheme is now closed. Please keep up to date with developments in this area by checking our website and signing up to our newsletter
3) Digital Shorts
Digital Shorts is a short film scheme for writers, directors and producers living in the North West region who have a short film script they would like to make.
Digital Shorts as a scheme is now closed permanently. Although we are confident there will be similar funding provided for short films in the future, we are not currently in a position to predict exactly what that level of funding will be.
