Young people in the North West looking to break into the media industry are being urged to apply for the the Advanced Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media. And you only have until the end of Monday 5th March to apply!!

Run by Vision+Media, the  apprenticeship gives young people from the North West the chance to work behind the scenes at companies including the BBC, ITV Granada, Lime Pictures, Sumners, Channel K, Shine North and Bellyfeel.

36 talented apprentices aged between 16 and 24 and from a diverse range of backgrounds will be selected to participate in the programme. Over 18 months, successful candidates will receive on-the job training in TV, radio and online content, while gaining two Level 3 qualifications and careers advice.

Now in its fourth year, the apprenticeship has been designed by BBC North, Vision+Media, the National Apprenticeship Service and Skillset to act as a balance to graduate recruitment and ensure that non-graduate talent from different communities have the opportunity to work in the industry.

David Longworth, Head of Apprenticeships at Vision+Media said: “With MediaCityUK, the Sharp Project and the arrival of BBC North, there’s never been a more exciting time to work in the media industry in the North West.

“We want to help develop the next generation of media talent and make sure that they have the skills to match what the industry needs. Apprentices will develop a wealth of practical experience across a range of companies, gain invaluable industry contacts and a recognised qualification to kick-start their career.”

Richard Deverell, Chief Operating Officer at BBC North said: "Part of our big ambition in moving North is to connect with our regional audiences, create lasting partnerships, and develop local talent. The BBC has a unique opportunity to create something new and exciting with BBC North, to reinvent the BBC for the very different media landscape of the 21st century. This scheme provides us with an opportunity to work with some talented young people from the region. We look forward to offering those that succeed in getting an apprenticeship an opportunity to work alongside BBC staff and receive specialist training and development."
The programme will begin in September 2010 and run until March 2012.
