Radio production company Made in Manchester (MIM) has unveiled its latest commission, which has been produced as part of The Independent's pioneering partnership to bring ground-breaking drama to new audiences.
As President Obama marks a year in office, 'As We Forgive Them' is a hard-hitting take on an issue which cuts to the very heart of American politics. The drama can be dowloaded for free through the Independent website. It’s America, November 2008 and President Obama has just been elected amidst an ‘audacity of hope’.
For newly elected Democrat Congressman, John Daniels, this should be a time of celebration. Instead he must decide the fate of his daughter’s murderer: should he exact revenge or grant redemption …..or both?
'As We Forgive Them' won audience favourite production at the 24.7 Theatre Festival, The Vicky Allen Memorial Award from Equity for Best Production and The Manchester Evening News Theatre Award for Best Fringe Production.
MIM Creative Director Ashley Byrne said: “We are absolutely delighted to turn this multi-award-winning stage play into cutting edge radio drama for the internet.“This story is truly gripping with tremendous performances from Joe Sims as inmate Lee Fenton and Richard Vergette as Congressman Daniels.”
Writer and actor Richard Vergette added: "Its a great thrill for us that As We Forgive Them is being premiered online from The Independent website. As a piece of radio the menacing atmosphere of the piece is intensified. Being able to download quality drama is an exciting venture and I'm very proud that As We Forgive Them is part of this bold new initiative."'
'As We Forgive Them' is the fourth production to be premiered via The Independent by MIM and post production house Dark Smile Productions. Previous productions, which can still be streamed or downloaded via the Independent website are:
- 'Suzie Pugh and a Monster Too' starring Coronation Street’s Vicky Binns
- 'Death in Genoa' starring Simon Callow as Oscar Wilde
- 'Turing’s Test' starring Samuel Barnett (from the History Boys) as persecuted Enigma code breaker Alan Turing
