With four channels to fill and a commissioning budget of over £200million, the BBC has big plans for the future to make BBC Drama the home for the best writers and the best drama in the UK.
With this in mind, Vision+Media held an event in Liverpool earlier this year, bringing together a panel of high profile industry representatives and giving content creators from the region the chance to hear first hand the BBC’s future plans for drama.
The panel included:
Ben Stephenson, Controller of Drama Commissioning
Polly Hill, Head of Independent Drama, BBC England
Hilary Martin, Executive Producer for Drama North.
Kate Rowland, BBC Creative Director of New Writing, quizzed the panel on the opportunities and challenges for producers and writers looking to work with BBC drama. The audience then had an opportunity to ask their own questions.
Just some of the feedback from this sell-out event included:
‘Meet the Commissioners was very encouraging and most helpful. It gave very clear guidelines for writers and it was fantastic to see it take place up here in the North West’ Debbie Murrish, writer
‘A very useful event and a real boost for local production companies. It was fantastic to have this event in Liverpool’.
Amy Buscombe, LA Productions
