Vision+Media Launches DRAFTED Screenwriter Initiative

The North West’s screenwriting talent will soon be able to realise their feature film potential thanks to DRAFTED, a new training programme being launched this month.

Vision+Media’s DRAFTED is a brand new, eight month training and development initiative for screenwriters in the region. It will run from September 2010 to May 2011 and will equip writers with the skills, confidence, contacts and support they need to write screenplays for commercially successful feature films.

DRAFTED is open to both established writers and emerging talent.   There is an opportunity for 10 established writers and 16 emerging writers to take part in DRAFTED.  Participants in both strands will have access to development support for their feature projects along with a series of themed masterclasses run by industry professionals.

The course is delivered by esteemed script consultants Kate Leys, who will be developing projects with the established writers and Caroline Cooper Charles who will work with the emerging writers.  Both are experienced in developing commercially successful and critically acclaimed feature film projects.  Caroline has most recently worked as Head of Creative Development for Warp X, whilst Kate is a feature film story editor and consultant for a range of producing and financing companies as diverse as DNA Films and Media Plus.

Tara Cook, Head of Film at Vision+Media comments: “There’s a wealth of writing talent in the North West who may not have considered film, we want them to do so. At Vision+Media we believe that by supporting that writing talent, we can strengthen our region’s film business and create a legacy for the future. DRAFTED is a bespoke course, designed by people working in the industry, who are best placed to help new and established talent.”

In order to apply, Established writers require a minimum of 2 writing credits in either film, radio, television or theatre.  These credits should be for work that has actually been produced. Emerging talent must submit a 10 page writing sample and be able to demonstrate through their CV that they have been actively pursuing a career as a writer in either: film, radio, television or theatre.

DRAFTED is open for submissions until noon Monday 12th July 2010.  Late applications will not be accepted.
