NFTS MA Applications Open

What do the following films have in common? Harry Potter…Atonement…No Country for Old Men…Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit…Brick Lane…and hit TV series Life on Mars? Look through the credits and you’ll find NFTS graduates names on all of them. From Directors to Composers, from Cinematographers to Editors, our students have made a major impact on cinema and television worldwide.


Britdoc Short and Feature Documentary Competitions are now open
Deadlines: shorts 16th May

This July sees the launch of the third annual BRITDOC Festival and we want you to be a part of it. With the world's most influential documentary movers and shakers coming to Keble College, Oxford we are now open for film submissions in both the shorts and feature competitions.


City In Motion Short Film Competition
Deadline: 16th May 2008

CITY IN MOTION takes place for a second year in 2008 as part of the City of London Festival, which takes place from 20 June – 10 July 2008. Hosted by the City of London Festival, in partnership with Barbican Film and the British Film Institute, the event is for short works up to 8 minutes created by students age 16 years and above. Six short films will be selected for screenings at the Barbican cinemas. Two bursary prizes of £2000 will be awarded.

Commissioning Editors Workshop
Deadline: 23rd May

Scottish Documentary Institute is pleased to present the annual Commissioning Editors Workshop 2008 which will run alongside Edinburgh International Film Festival (18-29 June 2008) for the first time. The workshop has been expanded to 3 days to include a pitching workshop. The pitching forum will take place on 19 June in Edinburgh’s Traverse Theatre, followed by one-on-one meetings with industry experts.


The Tony Wilson Experience
Deadline: 26th May

At noon on 21 June, 2008 some of the biggest names in design, the creative industries, media, and the arts will launch a 24 hour Conversation and debate in the centre of Manchester, with a selected audience of two hundred talented and creative young people from across the city and beyond.

The two hundred young people – the 'talent' - attending the event will be selected for the potential they show across a broad spectrum of the creative arts. Talented individuals across the region are invited to upload their 'Inspired Moment' at www.tonywilsonexperience.com and will be selected to take part by a panel including some of the event's media supporters, education partners, organisers, and the 24 Experienced speakers themselves. All participants will be over 18.

Movie Mogul Fund - Micro Movie Lab
Deadline: 27th May

Movie Mogul Fund have launched the ‘Micro Movie Lab’ competition, an online open-call for ideas to be developed
into a user-generated feature film. Budding film aficionados are invited to submit 25 word or less ‘micropitches’ to The Cherry Bowl, the first round of the competition.

The UK Film Council Short Film Completion Fund is now open for submissions
Deadline: 30th May

Producers or production companies are now invited to send a rough cut of their unfinished short film to Maya Vision International, along with a completed application form.


Pygmalion Plus: Developing projects for Child/Family Audiences on Film, TV or Interactive Media/Cross Platform
Deadline: 2nd June

We are delighted to announce PAL’s lead partnership in this year’s PYGMALION PLUS, a MEDIA funded European programme for writers and creative teams wishing to develop projects for children, young people or family audiences. PYGMALION PLUS is designed to develop projects from an early stage and has proved a unique resource for professionals with a particular interest in these audiences.


MA Feature Film at Goldsmiths: Call for Applications

The MA Feature Film course at Goldsmiths takes filmmakers, (producers, directors, writers or any combination of these roles) through the process of developing a feature film that will be ready for the market place.


Encounters 2008: Call for Entries
Deadline: 18th June

Now in its 14th year, Encounters Short Film Festival has become known world-wide for the extraordinary community of filmmakers it attracts, and for the quality and scope of its programming. This celebrated event is the largest festival of its kind in the UK, showcasing over 250 new international short films each year. The HP Digital Viewing library offers more than 600 films for on demand viewing available to all delegates’ buyers, distributors, programmers and press.

Submissions for this years festival open via the ‘new look’ website on until Wednesday 18th June. The short listing takes place throughout the summer and selected films will be announced by the end of August.

New Robin Hutt award for aspiring filmmakers in Cumbria
Deadline: 30th June 2008

Film club at the Roxy is pleased to announce the foundation of a new award aimed at supporting aspiring film makers in Cumbria. An award of £500 will be offered once a year to a Cumbrian film-maker. The award is aimed at film makers living and working in Cumbria, who are actively involved in film making and may need a boost to get a film off the ground or to develop their film making skills.


Virgin Media Shorts
Deadline for submissions: 30th June 2008

Virgin Media Shorts aims to seek out, promote and profile Britain’s best short film makers giving them a multi platform arena to showcase their work including online, TV, mobile, internet and on cinema screens across the UK. Filmmakers can now submit their short film (no longer than 2mins 30 seconds ) online and take part in the competition. The top 12 films will be blown up to a 35 mm print and shown on 211 cinema screens across the UK. The winner, selected by respected filmmakers in the industry will be given the chance to work directly with the UK Film Council and Virgin Media to develop and produce their next short film with a budget of up to £30,000.

The 14th Bite the Mango Film Festival is open for entries

The Bite the Mango Film Festival returns for 2008 running from 19th – 25th September. Hosted at the National Media Museum, Bite the Mango will again be bringing audiences an impressive collection of the very best cinema from around the world drawing influences from Africa, South Asia, Central America and the Far East.

exposures: Call for Entries

exposures – the UK's leading competitive festival for student film and moving image – is looking for the talent of the future. Call for entries is now open for the 2008 edition to be held in November at Cornerhouse and Urbis, Manchester's two leading contemporary arts venues, co-hosts of exposures for the first time this year.

The Liverpool Connection: Call for Entries
Deadline: 8th August

A five day film festival, The Liverpool Connection, will be facilitated under the umbrella community arts initiative, Urban Strawberry Lunch at St Luke's in the Autumn. Before each “Main Feature” we will screen shorts, documentaries etc written, produced and directed by amateur and professional filmmakers, giving local talent an opportunity to display their work in a unique, centrally located, venue. This will all run alongside exhibitions and performances by local artists and musicians to create a holistic approach to the festival. The entries should be no longer than 30 minutes and be locally produced.
