CDNN Achievements
The CDNN has already made a positive impact within the following
areas:
Media Question and Answer Sessions (watch more here)
In partnership
with the BBC, CDNN hosted 4 different Q and A sessions about
working in the media in Rochdale, Bolton, Manchester and Blackburn.
A number of industry experts including Red Productions’
Andrew Critchley and Lime Pictures’ Tony Woods – along
with BBC staff spoke to over 600 diverse individuals about ways to
enter the media industry.
BANG (British Asian New Generation) Writing
Project
CDNN worked with BBC Writers Room to support new talent development
from South Asian backgrounds. CDNN promoted the workshops as well
as financially supported a writer’s residential week in Kent.
From this project, one individual, Aisha Khan, was supported to do
a placement with radio soap ‘Silver Street’ and was
eventually commissioned to do 5 scripts from this.
Bollywood Movie
CDNN with the Cumbrian
Film office of Northwest Vision and Media supported 6 trainees to
work on Bollywood Movie ‘Mr Bhatti goes Chutti’. These
were roles in areas such as production, costume, camera and
locations. The movie starred international star ‘Anupam
Kher’ and will see a potential international audience of over
25 million people.
CDNN ‘Unveiling’ (watch more here)
A launch of the CDNN website and welcome of new chair was held at the
Lowry earlier in the year. This was an opportunity to raise
awareness of CDNN and to thank outgoing chair Caroline Roberts.
Over 60 people attended the event and since then the website has
had over 21000 hits online and is a valuable resource for
recruitment, news and events.
Diversity Leadership workshops
With
consultants Freda Shafi and Dawn Cameron, CDNN supported 4
workshops in supporting the industry in areas such as recruitment,
marketing and on screen portrayal of diverse talent. CDNN Patron
Chris Bisson, Actress Shobna Gulati and newsreader Ranvir Singh
were just some of the speakers at the workshops.
Partnership with Royal Television Society
CDNN will be partnering with the Royal Television Society as a
supporter of the Northwest awards as well as promoting
‘Change your Deja View’ – an event on audience
development. 10 trainees will be on placements at the Northwest
awards with 1 trainee attending the award ceremony.
