Chorley on Film 2 Screening

IN response to public demand the North West Film Archive at Manchester Metropolitan University is pleased to announce Chorley on Film 2, a part of its programme to make this fascinating collection available to the public of the Northwest region. Supported by Northwest Vision and Media and in collaboration with the Chorley Film Society, the NWFA will present a further public screening of films from its collection at the Chorley Little Theatre. The programme will be a mixture of mainly new material and a few old favourites.

The screening will take place on Tuesday 19th August 2008 at 7.30pm.

The films to be shown will feature life in and around Chorley and central Lancashire and will include material from much of the previous century. Titles will include moving scenes at the unveiling of the memorial to the Chorley Pals, with children seen wearing their father’s medals, first screened at what is now the Little Theatre in 1924, and you can see Chorley’s own version of Dad’s Army on exercise in Astley Park in 1943. Wartime Lancashire’s production of cotton and food is illustrated in Queen Cotton and Summer on the Farm, whilst the county relaxes postwar in Lancashire Coast and at the ABC cinema in Preston. The screening comes more up to date with views of the building of the M61, and we re-tell An Old Wives Tale, a film made to promote the Central Lancashire Newtown to potential new residents and businesses in 1972.

The Archive’s Service Manager Marion Hewitt said “This is a great opportunity for the people of Chorley to enjoy an evening with a difference, and take a look back at life in their area in the past century”.

Northwest Vision and Media’s Alice Morrison said "The North West Film Archive is one of our region's real gems, and Northwest Vision and Media are proud to support Chorley on Film 2, enabling local people to access a piece of their region's past".

The evening’s show will be presented by the Archive’s Collections Assistant Geoff Senior, who can be contacted on 0161 247 3097 for further information, interview, and footage.

Tickets are £4.00 and can be obtained in advance from the box office or by calling 01257 264362. The venue seats 234. Book early to avoid disappointment!
