Diversity Tool Kit
UK Film Council launches an online 'Diversity Tool Kit'
The UK Film Council has launched a website to inform and assist everybody involved within the film industry about the key issues and importance of diversity in film.
The 'Diversity Tool Kit' is a comprehensive resource that covers suggestions, top tips, sources of advice on diversity, equality and employment law. This covers everything from the Disability Discrimination Act - including what Cinemas can do to improve access for the disabled - to top tips on recruitment and selection.
The site is split into four main sections, which provide important information for organisations and businesses from trainers and freelancers to providers of goods and services. The sections cover the following areas:
- Diversity Snapshot / What the Industry is currently doing
- Cinema going - Widening access to potential audience members who may be excluded from film, whether because of their disability, location, age, ethnic origin or any other reason.
- Working in film - Attracting and retaining people from the widest pool of talent
- Content and portrayal - Looking at storylines and at how certain groups are portrayed on film.
Alice Morrison, Chief Executive at North West Vision said:
"Diversity is an integral part of the work carried out by North West Vision and the Diversity Tool Kit is an excellent support package to our extensive regional diversity strategy. I would recommend the website to anybody who is working in the film industry, it is an invaluable resource for guidance and advice."
The UK film Council is the lead agency for film in the UK and works closely with North West Vision, supporting and funding the agencies activities. The film council has set up a Leadership on Diversity forum to help producers, distributors, financiers, cinema owners and film agencies set out a framework for action to realise the opportunities from diversity in the film workforce, whilst encouraging more audiences to enjoy a greater range of films.
