NEW ENTRANTS

Do you have any placements / jobs / work experience going?
We can only support paid placement opportunities via our existing training schemes, and once someone is on a scheme it’s not guaranteed they will get a placement. To find out what training schemes are currently running and to see if you can apply, please email Simon Knight on simonk@visionandmedia.co.uk

Can you fund my MA?

Unfortunately we cannot fund full-time education, including degrees and postgraduate courses. For further information on funding postgraduate study, we would recommend visiting www.prospects.ac.uk

My child is / I am leaving school / college soon and would like more information on a career in the media, can you help?

We don’t currently give out media careers advice direct. Our first recommendation is to visit the careers section of the Skillset website, www.skillset.org/careers You may also be interested in seeing if TVYP (Television and Young People) have an event happening near you. For more information, visit www.mgeitf.co.uk/tvyp

I’ve seen a course I’d like to do. Can I get some funding?

What’s a Training Needs Analysis (TNA)?
A TNA is tool to help you think about your career, where it’s going, where you want it to go and what training you might need to get you there. Vision and Media use TNAs to help you make the right decisions about training for you.

I keep sending my CV out to loads of companies but no one ever calls me back. Why does this keep happening?
A lot of us make the same mistake of putting too much information on our CVs. A good CV will cut through the rest and ensure you end up on top of the pile. Always make sure your name stands out, keep the CV to two pages and keep it current. If you’ve got 10 years’ experience as a producer leave off the fact that you did some work experience as a runner 15 years ago. We’d also advice that you sign up for one of our CV workshops. Email johannah@visionandmedia.co.uk for more details. Further tips on writing a great CV can be found in our Working In The Industry section.

My current contract finishes in three weeks and nothing else is booked in. What should I do?
Now’s the time to get out your contacts book and start getting touch with people. If there’s a networking event in your area make sure you go to it and get talking to people. The more people you tell you’re available, the better. It might also be time to think about some training. Apart from updating your skills and knowledge, you’ll also meet other people in your profession. Whatever you do, don’t do nothing.
