That’s why Manchester is famous for some of the biggest names on TV – from Coronation Street to Shameless, we’re proud of the part we play in bringing quality programmes to the nation’s screens.

DRAMA

Drop Dead Gorgeous
Hat Trick: Filming of the second series of this popular drama about a Northern girl plucked from obscurity by a modelling agency started in February.

Shameless
Tightrope: The fifth series of this much loved drama about life on the fictitious Chatsworth Estate, was filmed in their new permanent set housed in a former Manchester warehouse. Work on the next sixteen episodes began in March.

True Dare Kiss
BBC: Debbie Horsfield has been busy adapting her play of the same name for the small screen. This six-part drama about four female friends living in Manchester began filming on January 7.

Blue Murder III
ITV Granada: A further two episodes of this popular crime drama saw the return of Caroline Quentin as Detective Chief Inspector, Janine Lewis.

Dead Clever
ITV Granada: Penned by Sally At Home with the Braithwaites Wainwright, this one off black comedy starred Suranne Jones as a woman who faked her own death and framed her cheating partner for her murder.

Drop Dead Gorgeous
Hat Trick: This six part series was written by Carmel Morgan and centred on a northern lass who was plucked from obscurity by a modelling agency. A second series went into production early 2007.

Goldplated
World Productions for Channel 4: Where Cheshire’s nouveaux riches were given the eight-part drama treatment.

Good Housekeeping Guide
Red Productions for BBC3: This one off dark comedy by Tony Basgallop, starred Alan Davies as a soon to be divorced househusband, who transforms his house into a brothel.

Good Samaritan
ITV: One-off comedy drama starring Shane Richie as a man who ruins somebody else's life and then spends four years trying to make amends.

Life On Mars II
With Philip Glenister and John Simm, filmed in Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Salford, Stockport.

I’m With Stupid
BBC: This six-part comedy (based on Pete Keeley's and Trafford original idea) followed the unlikely relationship between Paul, a wheelchair user, and a homeless man called Sheldon.

Innocence
Tightrope North for BBC Northern Ireland: This eight-part drama was shown on BBC1 and centred on a group of ambitious law students, hand picked by a brilliant professor, to take on pro bono cases that nobody else wants.

Instinct
Tightrope Productions for ITV: This 2 x 90min drama is written by Lizzie ‘Messiah’ Mickery.

Kombat Opera
Avalon TV for BBC: Mini operatic pastiches of television shows including: The Apprentice, Wife Swap, Panorama, Question Time and South Bank Show.

Life on Mars
Kudos for BBC: The second series of this award winning time travelling cop drama will unfortunately be the last.

Longford
ITV Granada for Channel 4: This two-hour single drama focused on Lord Longford’s relationship with Myra Hindley and his ill-fated attempts to secure her release.

Magnolia
Red Productions for BBC: Dave Spikey’s comedy pilot followed a group of chronically unemployed builders who hit the jackpot when they land two big estates to re-decorate.

Mark of Cain
Red Productions for Channel 4: This film, which will also have a cinematic release, follows two soldiers on their tour of duty in Iraq. Filming took place in Tunisia and Manchester.

Mobile
ITV Productions: A trail of sabotage and murder has one common link, mobile phones, and the detectives have a race against time to find out who is behind a series of brutal crimes in this 3 x 90min drama.

New Street Law II
Red Productions for BBC: Set amongst two rival barristers chambers in the heart of Manchester, this contemporary drama followed the weekly crises facing opposing legal teams and the people they represent.

Shameless
Company Pictures for Channel 4: The fourth series of this BAFTA-winning drama completed filming in December. The next series will be filmed in their new permanent set housed in a former Manchester warehouse. Work on the next sixteen episodes should begin in March.

Sinchronicity
Shine for BBC 3: A six part contemporary drama series explored the intertwining relationships between a group of friends who worked lived and partied in centre of Manchester.

Sorted
BBC North: This six part drama series for BBC 1 followed the lives and friendships of six postmen (Hugo Speer, Dean Lennox Kelly, Mark Womack, Will Mellor, Cal Macaninch and Neil Dudgeon) living and working in Manchester.

The Street
BBC: This Jimmy McGovern produced six part drama series, explored the lives of residents living on one Northern street.

Vincent II
ITV Granada: Ray Winstone reprised his role as the acerbic private detective with Suranne Jones as his everdependable sidekick.

Waterloo Road II
Shed Productions for BBC1: More drama at the chalk face for the pupils and teachers in the return of this popular series set in a failing northern comprehensive school.

CONTINUOUS DRAMA SERIES (SOAPS)

Coronation Street
ITV Granada: The notorious ‘Baldwin Love Triangle’, Claire Peacock’s postnatal depression and its near fatal consequences; and Tracey Barlow’s cold-blooded revenge plot against serial cheater Charlie Stubbs were all filmed in Manchester, Salford, Tameside and Trafford.

POP PROMOS

Beautiful South
Flynn Productions Limited: chose Collyhurst as the location to stage the street party, which featured in the pop promo for the single ‘Manchester’.

Fratelli
Believe Media: held an impromptu performance on the roof of Manchester House, Princess Road for their single ‘Baby Fratelli’.
