Bury Market
What makes this location different is that, when it comes to filming, the people at Bury Market are contagiously enthusiastic. Never before has a location been so forthcoming in its desire to accommodate productions; for filming enquiries the Market’s motto is, ‘We like to say yes.’
This endless energy has led to Bury Markets being used more and
more as a filming location in recent months. There aren’t
many locations that would allow two productions to film on the same
day, with Channel 4’s Location, Location, Location filming at
the same time the market was featured on the National News. The
Paul O’ Grady show, Radio Four Woman’s Hour, and BBC1
News have also all recently taken advantage of the market’s
hospitality.
Susan Williams, Manchester Film Liaison Officer said:
“The people at Bury Markets will do anything to make your experience go without a hitch. They staff have limitless enthusiasm and will go out of their way to assist TV and film crews.”
The Market has 200,000 square feet of selling area – the size of ten football pitches, so there is more than enough room to accommodate filming and the fantastic array of 370 mostly undercover stalls could also present some bargains whilst you are there.
The market has accessible transport links to the motorway network and is ideally situated minutes from the Metrolink to the city centre.
John Ayres, filming liaison contact at the markets said:
“ Bury Market is a great place, with great people and great characters. It’s got ambience, lots of happy people enjoying themselves, nice visuals, easy shots and interesting locations. This market oozes charisma and we like to say yes.”
Bury Market has been in the town centre for 600 years, it was first granted its trading licence in 1444 and has been operating as a traditional Lancashire Market ever since.
Bury Market was voted Great British Market of the Year 2006 and is open Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
