GOING POTTY OVER MISS POTTER
MOVE over Harry Potter – it’s Miss Potter that’s making movie headlines this New Year, with the star-studded film due for general release across the country on Friday (January 5).
“The film is fantastic! I’ve worked on numerous productions in the past, including Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, but Miss Potter beats it when it comes to the magical location.
“I can guarantee cinema-goers everywhere will be entranced by what they see on the big screen,” says Alan Saywell, North West Vision’s Cumbria Film Liaison Officer, and a key-player in helping to get the big-name movie to be made in the Northwest.
“I’ve already seen Miss Potter twice, once at the cast-and-crew screening in London, and again at the regional premier at the Royalty Cinema, Bowness-on-Windemere, in December,” says Alan. “But it’s such a great film, and it shows off the Lake District so well, that I’ve got a feeling I’ll be watching it again very soon.”
The film is an excellent opportunity for Cumbria to show off its inspiring scenery to the movie-going public across the world, and is the result of months of behind-the-scenes planning by North West Vision, the film, TV and digital media development agency for the Northwest.

Potter, and Ewan McGregor as her publisher, Norman Wane, the film
was shot at key locations around Cumbria in the summer of 2006,
including Coniston’s Hill Top
Farm, the home that Beatrix bought in 1903 with money
earned from the success of her book, The Tale of Peter
Rabbit.
North West Vision’s Chief Executive, Alice Morrison, says the
film is a glowing tribute to everyone who worked so hard to produce
it. “Our Cumbria Film Officer, Alan Saywell, worked
tirelessly to ensure Miss Potter came to Cumbria, and once the crew
arrived in the region Alan was able to assist them considerably,
liaising between the production team, the local authority and
police,” explains Alice.
“North West Vision is the only screen agency in the country which offers sub-regional Film Offices like the one in Cumbria, and I am sure the bespoke service we were able to give the production team had a huge bearing on their decision to film here.
“Our aim now is to spread the word about the other fantastic film locations available in Cumbria and across the Northwest, so that we can look forward to even more big budget movies being made in the region,” adds Alice.
Miss Potter will open in cinemas across the UK from January 5th.
