Over recent years, the Northwest has witnessed an explosion of growth in the independent film and TV sector, with a huge rise in productions and a dramatic increase in the number of Indies now established in the region.

That’s why the Northwest has become the largest and most profitable film and TV industry outside London, contributing over 11% of network programming every year, and adding substantially to the high growth, high value, digital and media sectors.

Whether home-grown talent or an incoming company, Vision and Media works consistently to support all indies, helping them develop specific products and programmes.

From scripted drama to children’s animation, film to high-end factual, our region boasts an amazing array of talent, with existing companies such as Lime Pictures, RED, Cosgrove Hall, Idaho, Stardotstar, Scarlet, Turn On TV and Libra all looking to expand production.

But they’re not alone in that ambition, with an influx of big name brands also now established in the region. Channel K, Shine North, Tightrope North, Freeform and October North are all open for business, each bringing new production into the region and collectively estimated to turnover around £30 million over the next two years.

And in addition to all of these, the BBC’s move to Salford, combined with the current explosion in independent production facilitated by Vision and Media’s Regional Attraction Fund, presents an enormous opportunity for the region to seize a much larger slice of the production pie.
