‘PROVOKED’ SCREENING IN ASHTON FOR RAIS ACADEMY

CRITICALLY acclaimed film Provoked is being screened at the Ashton Hippodrome as part of the Ashes 2 project. The RAIS Academy is showing the film on Monday 23rd July at 11am, and all are welcome. In addition, short film Man Ki Baat (Urdu with English subtitles) will also be screened, focusing on raising awareness of mental health in black and ethnic minorities.

Feature film Provoked features Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai, Miranda Richardson and Naveen Andrews. The film follows the true story of a battered wife who fights back, first against her husband and then against the system, allowing for a discussion of domestic violence and the sense of unrestrained anger within. Provoked is an important and influential film, directed by Jag Mandra.

The RAIS Academy exists to advance the public understanding and appreciation of Asian arts and culture. It offers a wide range of workshop programmes in arts and literature, helps local artists to exhibit and publish their work, and fosters understanding and integration between Asian and mainstream communities.
