Film Networking

Canadian Co-production Networking Opportunity
Co-productions can be highly beneficial to filmmakers and TV producers; not only do they foster new creative relationships, but both parties often qualify for benefits - such as tax relief - in the UK and partner country. Northwest Vision and Media took advantage of a group of visiting Canadian producers from Nova Scotia and invited them to form part of a Manchester networking lunch in early November 2007. David MacLeod, Big Motion Pictures, discussed his experience as the Canadian producer for the UK co-production ‘Sex Traffic’, the award-winning mini-series for Channel Four and CBC.

The Future of Snap!
FourDocs and 3 Minute Wonders launched Snap!, a programme of 15 short form documentaries (all less than 5 minute) in Bethnal Green, May 2007. The audience was a mix of commissioners, independent filmmakers, people from production companies and the general public. In 2008, the programme is touring outside of London and Northwest Vision and Media will be providing support for the event in Manchester. Snap! is a chance to show documentaries in a new context and each event will use a sourced location, such as an interesting building or re-appropriated space. Entry will be free and everyone will get a drink, program and surprise (such as popcorn) on arrival.

UK Media Desk
Northwest Vision and Media provided support for this event’s November stopover in Manchester. Promoting the European Union’s MEDIA 2007 Programme, Director of the UK MEDIA Desk, Agnieszka Moody, explained how the funding schemes worked and how to submit a successful application. One-to-one sessions were also available with Agnieszka as she provided Northwest-based producers, writers and directors with information on a range of MEDIA-supported professional training courses, festivals and markets in Europe.
