TOP TV Execs Discuss Mediacity Impact on Salford

SOME of the country’s top TV execs from the BBC and beyond will gather in Salford next week to discuss the implications of building the UK’s first purpose-built media city in the Northwest.

Work is already underway on mediacity:uk, which will create an internationally significant media community for the creative industries. But there are still many questions surrounding the plans, and at the informal panel discussion to be held on November 26, industry experts will attempt to answer them.

At the event, held as part of the Salford Film Festival, Bob Shennan, Controller of BBC Radio 5 Live, will be joined by several high profile industry figures, including Alice Morrison, CEO of Northwest Vision and Media, which works on behalf of the TV, film, radio and digital content industries.

“Although the prospect of having mediacity:uk right on our doorstep is hugely exciting and promises a wealth of opportunity for so many, it’s understandable that some people still have questions that need to be answered,” says Alice.

“At the informal panel discussion, we’ll be talking about what mediacity:uk will really mean for the city, and what will it mean for the community. Without doubt, the development will transform media production in the UK, so we want to talk about how those changes will effect the businesses which are already operating in the region, as well as the companies mediacity:uk hopes to attract.”

Also taking part in the discussion will be Chris Farrow, CEO Central Salford URC, Ed Burrows, Property Director of Peel Media, Andy Sumner, Media Executive of The Pie Factory, Alison Surtees Cris, of Creative Industries in Salford, and Cllr John Merry, Leader of Salford City Council.
