Stuart Cosgroves 'A Story of Motown'

Stuart Cosgrove, Channel 4’s Head of Programmes, Nations and Regions, entertained an exclusive gathering of producers and commissioners at a networking event arranged by North West Vision.

Ahead of the Broadcast Commissioning Conference, Stuart presented an informal lecture entitled ‘A story of Motown’ to guests including Felicity Goodey, Chief Executive of Mediacity:UK, the proposed BBC project that will bring several major departments from London to a new site at Salford Quays.

The lecture used the story of America’s influential 1960’s record label, to explain to guests some of the effective methods involved in developing and expanding a creative company.

Stuart compared the initial success of Motown’s (measured and sometimes unintentional) methods to the current state of the thriving TV industry within the Northwest.

He concluded the lecture with a strong message focusing on the ultimate demise of the globally successful company. Debating whether all independent creative’s have a limited lifespan, he emphasised the importance of nurturing talent and being in a position to have a lasting effect on the industry as a whole.

Alice Morrison, Chief Executive at North West Vision said:
“North West Vision supported fifteen regional companies at this year’s Broadcast Commissioning Conference and this event was the perfect way to bring them together ahead of the main day. Stuart understands the importance of our TV industry and it was fantastic to have him presenting this original and entertaining speech.”

The event was organised to celebrate North West Vision’s Regional Attraction Fund (RAF) and to encourage discussion between organisations in preparation for Broadcasts Commissioning Conference.
