If anyone else quotes the Chinese proverb about living in interesting times to me, I will not be responsible for my actions but they may involve a machete.
We are certainly living in strange times. The messages coming out from government about the digital and creative sector are really encouraging: we are a growth industry, we have high export potential, we are a beacon of hope for the UK economy and so on....
But , and it really is a big one, there have been no policies or ideas or thoughts coming out of Whitehall that give any kind of clue as to where support for this growth sector might come from. Cuts, abolitions, and rescinding s on the other hand, we are getting plenty of.
We have spent the last 8 years listening to you tell us what support you want – and some of you don’t want any at all – and this is what we have heard.
Businesses and individuals want help with :
- Access to Markets
- Access to Skills
- Access to Finance
And, crucially, you want us to help you take some risks, so you can grow faster. That is the message that we are taking to central government, and of course to local government.
