Acrobat Television’s Middle Eastern Crusade
What have the Crusader Knights, Saladin, Ghengis Khan and BBC presenter Howard Stableford have in common? The answer is they’ve all invaded Al Karak Castle.
Al Karak is located in the mountains of central Jordan and is one of the most important and imposing of the Crusader Castles positioned as it is in close proximity to the North – South middle east trade route, the ‘Kings Highway’ and the East – West route from the far east to the Dead Sea. Howard has been working with Acrobat Television’s production team filming a documentary about Al Karak Castle for the Jordanian Ministry of Tourism. The documentary is now in edit as the crew have just returned from the shoot which Acrobat’s managing director, David Hill said was “A truly remarkable experience. The Jordanian people went out of their way to help facilitate our filming and it has resulted in some spectacular footage. The programme will be stunning, a real showcase for the High Definition cameras that it’s been filmed on.”
The documentary will form a key element in a new amphitheatre which overlooks the castle where it will be shown to visitors from across the world and it will accompany a spectacular light show projected onto the outer walls of the castle. Visitors will have the option of listening in at least four different languages and an extended version of the programme will be available on DVD and BluRay for tourists and history enthusiasts to purchase at the castle and through various online shops.
Katie Mather, Acrobat’s Head of Development says of the production “This documentary is the first of its kind in the Middle East and is a key element in the drive to promote tourism. It’s a really strong example of what can be done with film to lift the profile of a destination.”
The King of Jordan is expected to visit the amphitheatre and watch the documentary in an extravagant opening ceremony when the project is launched later this summer.
