Know Your Commissioners!

Vision+Media believe that production companies and producers can grow through exposure to commissioners. We feel that exposure promotes collaboration; helps find new markets and leads to commissions and sustainability. This is why we are running a series of meet the commissioner events throughout 2010-11. The first of which centred around comedy was held at Vision+Media’s offices in Salford Quays on 15th June. It attracted 40 producers all eager to meet and learn about the opportunities for comedy commissioning within major broadcasters.


Producers share our views

At Vision+Media we are committed to ensuring our events are worthwhile and we want to prove that these events are relevant and important in addressing company development needs including the need to find new markets. So we asked the attendees whether they thought the content was relevant in addressing their growth needs and the sector growth needs and they agreed - see the document to the right for further analysis.
 

What can commissioners bring to the table?

In order for producers to take advantage of any opportunities they first need to know what these opportunities are where they are and how to access them. The event was designed to impart that knowledge so we checked to see how effectively that was done. We asked attendees to rate their levels of knowledge or understanding in the following areas: 

  • Knowledge of broadcasting commissioners and how to access them
  • Knowledge of the current and upcoming opportunities for commissioning across the broadcasters, and
  • Knowledge of the commissioning processes within the broadcasters.
     

The results are detailed are the attached document but headline figures show that on average 71% (17) of attendees indicated an increase in knowledge and understanding of the three key themes. This reflects an average of 50% (11) indicating little or knowledge of the themes prior to the event, to 92% (22) indicating some or complete knowledge after the event.
