Phil Parkers Guide to Selling Documents

To launch Vision+Media’s Green Shoots scheme the film team facilitated an event with screenwriting guru Phil Parker with a view to providing emerging talent with the skills and knowledge they need for writing selling documents. The Green Shoots programme aims to support writers to develop their scripts through to production. It also looks to identify emerging producers and directors.

As this event was all about delivering skills we are able to evaluate its effectiveness on the first two levels of the impact chain; reaction and learning.

The event was attended by 65 writers, directors and producers. 63 completed feedback forms at the event enabling us to measure their reaction and learning based on a 97% return rate. The table below summarises the impact measured so far.

What happens next

Clearly the event was very successful in achieving its short term objectives and therefore puts the programme in good stead for reaching its overall aims. The event was well received in terms of its relevance and there has been a clear increase in levels of knowledge and understanding. Although many participants indicated existing levels in the key learning outcomes the event successfully elevated this to ensure complete knowledge and understanding.

The level of commitment to further development is encouraging particularly for those who already have scripts in development. Vision+Media will be following up on participants to measure the application of these skills and observe any impact they have had.
