Branded Content Day

Held on the 2nd March at Vision+Media, the Branded Content Day brought together audiences from the television, film, digital and creative sectors to discuss current policy and industry practice, together with workshops and one to one sessions.

The audience was cross sector - television, film, digital, creative

Produced by Lilla Hurst, speakers Tess Alps from Thinkbox, Ed Sharp from FilmTree, Dan Chambers from Blink Film, Luke Taylor from BigBalls Films and Sally Quick from UKTV took delegates through current policy and industry practice, after which delegates were invited to one to one workshops relevant to their sector.

Overview of the presentation given by Dan Chambers from Blink Film:

Our experience of Advertiser Funding is that it is far from easy.  We had several attempts in our first year of trading where we all got our hopes up, only to have them dashed.

We tried an image make-over show, a personal finance show, and a building design show.  All had a brands express interest.  All had a broadcaster willing to schedule in a good slot. But then the recession hit, and the Advertiser Funding dropped away.

Since then we have had better fortunes.   We recently made Chinese Food In Minutes featuring brilliant chef He-Ching.  This was funded predominantly by Sharwoods, and broadcast by Five in a 7.30pm slot.  It’s been a big success, benefiting from the extra marketing paid for by Sharwoods.  It premiered at over a one million, with the narrative repeat attracting 200,000.  And it continues to considerably outperform slot average.   And on the back of this we have developed several other potential AFPs, that now have momentum.
