Triangle development programme for filmmakers

TRIANGLE is a unique development opportunity aimed at fostering creative collaboration between feature film writers, directors and producers in the North of England. The scheme, a partnership of Vision + Media, Screen Yorkshire and Northern Film & Media with support from the Skillset Film Skills Fund, is open to all filmmakers based in Yorkshire and Humber, the North West and North East of England.

TRIANGLE is an extensive six-month mentoring initiative intended to support the development of writer-producer-director teams and new collaborative feature film projects. There will be a selection process throughout the programme, and the surviving teams will pitch the best projects to an industry panel in June 2011 at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

TRIANGLE is open to all filmmakers based in Yorkshire and Humber, the North West and North East of England. The initiative specifically encourages those seeking new creative collaborations, whether experienced or not, though track record will be taken into account in assessment and it is likely that applicants who can evidence their commitment to making films will be preferred.

60-80 participants will be selected to take part in a launch day that will incorporate masterclasses, networking and facilitation, to help those who have not yet done so to form teams. After the launch, teams will be encouraged to develop film ideas that have the potential to reach an audience in the UK and abroad, and mentored through the concept development process. They will then attend an all day event with a series of seminars on key facets of the industry, followed by a film screening and masterclass. A pitching ‘bootcamp’ will prepare the teams to present their projects to an expert industry panel, after which 4 teams will be selected for intensive support to develop their projects and supporting material, to include a filmed sequence, to present to key decision makers during the Edinburgh Film Festival.

Successful participants will be required to make a small contribution towards the cost of travel and accommodation, which will be covered by the scheme, but there is a small hardship fund which will be open to participants from under-represented backgrounds who would have difficulty meeting this cost.
