Accidental Leader

Award-winning Executive Producer, Cat Lewis gives us an insight into her Accidental Leader experience so far...

How do you think it was for all those involved in the stage coach business when the first trains were invented and then the first cars?  I guess there were some who firmly believed their customers would stick to what they knew and wouldn’t be interested in getting places any faster.

This is the analogy Dubliner Mark Comerford used in his session about how Digital is going to **** up every business you can imagine.

It’s certainly a threatening time for television production and last year’s statistic that advertising spend on the internet had overtaken that on TV was a major call to action for all of us involved in television production.

Barefoot and passionate, Mark Comerford was determined to ensure we all understood in no uncertain terms that we must not end up like those stage coach business bosses who refused to even look at trains or cars let alone learn how to make them or even buy a couple to offer their customers as an alternative.

Times of change require risk taking and investment.  It’s easy to keep your head down delivering the business you have won and fighting hard for new business from old customers, without ever taking the time to raise your head to work out exactly where your company is heading and how it will cope with the change ahead.

The Accidental Leader course is forcing those creative business leaders taking part to look up and think again about their direction.  I’m really enjoying it.
