North West Film Archive

Vision+Media supports the North West Film Archive through its Screen Heritage Fund and through its strategic work on Revitalising the Regions and the UK Screen Heritage Strategy.

The North West Film Archive (NWFA) is the publicly recognised home for moving images about life in the North West of England. Supported by Vision+Media through its HAFAD fund, the NWFA continues to provide access to an exciting library of archive footage and film. A series of screenings are being hosted throughout 2009/2010, highlighting its exclusive and comprehensive archive.

 The Digital Film Archive Fund

The Digital Archive Fund is a UK Film Council lottery fund set up to increase public access to regional screen heritage.

This region has invested  £276,000 over two years from 2008 – 2010 to support innovative programmes ensuring wider access to the UK's screen heritage. Used strategically, the money will ensure that access to screen heritage is provided to as many people as possible through a variety of platforms (i.e. through screenings, festivals, online, and public spaces).

The Fund aligns with the vision of the Strategy for UK Screen Heritage that the public is entitled to access, learn about and enjoy its rich screen heritage wherever they live and wherever materials are held.

One of our newest DFAF projects: Stadium Legends, produced by Manchester indie Nine Lives Media, showcases archive sporting footage alongside more modern stars to thousands of people on the Big Screens at some of the region's sporting venues. Each venue involved in the project has its own individually tailored archive film: Burnley Football Club, Preston North End and coming in the autumn Manchester Velodrome.
